Black was seen in strapless numbers so eloquently done by Glenn Close, Lea Michele of “Glee”, Courteney Cox and Julie Bowen. Penelope Cruz, Julianne Moore, Vera Farmiga and Kyra Sedgwick, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts followed suit in the “color” of the night.

However purple and all its shades made a perfectly pleasant splash amongst the black sea. Fergie graced the red carpet and dominated in the purple category with her lilac Elie Saab strapless gown. Sandra Bullock a true winner of the night along side Leona Lewis, Alfre Woodward, Chloƫ Sevigny, and Jane Krakowski also chose purple as their principal hue.

The beautiful Diane Kruger in a Christian Lacroix Haute Couture took the “most whimsical” award in fuchsia.

Red was seen sprinkled on Cameron Diaz & Zoe Saldana of “Avatar” and a few in metallics like Toni Collette and Jennifer Garner shined bright under the shadow of the umbrellas. Blush & nudes popped up like tiny bubbles.

The one of the most precious moments of the evening took place during Mo’Nique’s acceptance speech for best supporting actress.
“I am in the mist of my dream and when I look into the eyes of the man that I stood next to at 14 years old and I said ‘one day we are going to be stars’ and he said ‘ you first’”.
